About Cystic Fibrosis
CF is an inherited, progressive, life-threatening disorder that causes recurring lung infections and limits the ability to breathe. Over 30,000 individuals in the United States are affected. In the 1950s, few children with cystic fibrosis lived to attend elementary school. Today, thanks to advancements in research and medical care, many people with the condition can expect to live into their thirties, forties, and beyond. However, there is still no cure.

Staying Active with CF
Exercise has been shown to slow the rate of decline in lung function, increase clearance of mucus from the airways, improve appetite, and build overall endurance in people with CF. Not only does an active lifestyle strengthen the respiratory and cardiovascular systems, it also increases psychological well-being, social connections, self-esteem, and general health.
It is critical that children with cystic fibrosis develop the interest and confidence to lead a healthy and active lifestyle. As more and more individuals with CF are living well into adulthood, it is increasingly apparent that consistent exercise is an integral part of enhancing and maintaining physical and mental well-being. M4CF promotes a healthy active lifestyle that can lead to longer, stronger lives. |
